What Is an SUV?

SUV stands for a sport utility vehicle, though the term SUV is now loosely used to describe a wide range of vehicles. In years past, you would associate the word SUV with a larger vehicle. However, more recently, some smaller, four-wheel drive vehicles that have the ability to go off-road are also being considered sport utility vehicles. For instance, a Chevrolet Suburban is a large sport utility vehicle, while a Honda CRV, which is more mid-to-compact in size, is also considered an SUV.

An SUV can provide you with the space of a truck but with a more reasonable fuel standard. As for the appearance of an SUV, it combines the style of both a minivan and a truck to create your typical American family vehicle. Historically speaking, off-road vehicles typically only had two doors. Today, most modern SUVs feature four to five doors to accommodate your family.
